SING School is a non-competitive and non-graded singing and music school, specialising in teaching people of all levels the skills to become better singers and musicians.
SING School was founded by Devena De Donatis out of a deep belief that everyone should be able to experience the joy and benefits of singing, regardless of their background or previous experience. As principal Voice Teacher and Technician, Devena’s vision for SING School is to provide a nurturing, inclusive environment where singers—whether beginners or seasoned performers—can learn to use their voices safely, confidently, and with the right technical foundation. The heart of SING School is the conviction that singing should be accessible and empowering, not intimidating. Devena’s own journey, marked by an early setback on stage, taught her the power of preparation, knowledge, and supportive teaching. These lessons shape the school’s philosophy: every student receives purposeful, science-backed instruction tailored to their needs, with special attention given to overcoming performance anxiety and building lasting confidence. SING School goes beyond vocal technique, highlighting the positive impact of music and singing on mental health and overall wellbeing. Devena’s teaching integrates both the art and science of singing, drawing on her ongoing education and network of industry experts. The school welcomes singers of all ages and aspirations, offering a space where each person is encouraged to grow artistically and personally.
Devena regularly performs throughout South East Queensland, connecting with musicians and fostering a vibrant music community—a spirit she brings into SING School. Her love for Blues and Soul music, combined with a commitment to original artistry, infuses the school with creativity and inspiration. Ultimately, SING School is about helping people discover their voices, build confidence, and find joy through music, guided by the belief that knowledge truly is power.
SING School is conveniently located in the inner city suburb of Red Hill Qld with plenty of on street parking available. The street address is Shop 18, 109 Musgrave Road, Red Hill QLD 4059
SING School teaches most ages* and all abilities from the individual who believes they are “tone deaf” or “can’t hold a note” through to working professionals and everyone in between. Hobbyists and recreational singers encouraged to attend, as we believe that everyone not only can sing but should sing for joy and pleasure. SING School has a special interest in helping people overcome performance anxiety and any fear or concern around the sound of their voices. *We like to meet any children under the age of 10 before commencing lessons to ensure they are ready for formal lessons.
Each lesson will be structured for the individual student and will differ each lesson. Most lessons will include specific warmups, vocal technique work, song work along with posture and breathing techniques tailored to the student’s unique requirements. The studio is set up with everything a singer needs to perform their craft.
For best results, maximum benefit and tangible improvement, weekly 60 minutes lessons are recommended (some people even come twice weekly), however we understand that life can be busy. We do offer casual lessons in certain circumstances. Another option is to purchase the block of 10 lessons (to receive a discount) and book in when you can fit lessons into your schedule.
Experience tells us that a minimum of 45 minutes is necessary to accommodate warmups and technique exercises, however 60 minutes is the ideal duration of a lesson to allow for song work and technical work without feeling rushed.
We are here to help and believe any singing is better than no singing!
In the world of singing, a Voice Teacher and Vocal Coach are two different things.
A Vocal Coach is primarily a style coach; they help singers with phrasing, rhythm, and how to “perform/act” a song etc.
A Voice Teacher has studied the science of singing (Vocal Pedagogy and anatomy), they teach the “how of singing”. They are voice builders; offering practical solutions to help the singer improve their voice.
At SING School, we offer a combination of both to all our students. We believe this provides the best outcome for all our students.
SING School offers virtual lessons to people all over the world via Skype and FaceTime, as well as face to face lessons.
