SING School SERVICES

Physical and Emotional Wellbeing

SING School is a non-competitive and non-graded singing school, specialising in teaching singers of all levels the skills to become better singers without the pressure of examinations and assessments (singers are not confined to predetermined syllabuses). Students learn the necessary techniques to work towards total vocal mastery at their own pace whether it be as a hobby or for employment as a paid vocalist. Singing is well known for its holistic benefits as it can encourage emotional expression through song selection/song writing, develop creativity, help with social skills, improve expression, communication and confidence, and promote self-esteem. Singing can also assist with positive changes in behaviour and wellbeing.

Private Voice lessons

At SING School, we specialise in providing tailored voice lessons to singers of all levels and most ages. SING School teaches a full range of clients from absolute beginners to gigging professionals. We also have a special interest in working with teenagers and adults working towards performing with confidence. Lessons are led by certified Voice Teacher and Technician Devena De Donatis and music teacher Adam O'Connor. Each lesson is designed using the latest science backed vocal techniques necessary to build the best and healthiest voices. We offer singing lessons for Contemporary Music Styles such as Pop, Rock, Musical Theatre, Blues, R&B and Soul etc.

Stagecraft and Performance Anxiety

SING School staff are trained in assisting people suffering from performance anxiety and understand that when singers have improvement with vocal coordination and technique they can grow in confidence; this coupled with overall preparedness allows for better performance outcomes and less nervousness. Stagecraft skills are a necessary part of performing; good stagecraft can increase feelings of confidence in a performance situation. SING School staff can help singers with the necessary knowledge of how to use stage equipment properly, as well as how to move, act, and communicate with not only the audience but also with their fellow musicians during a live performance.

ABOUT
Private Voice lessons

SING School is a dedicated singing school, specialising in the training of singers. Initially each student will learn the fundamentals of how to sing and then work their way through to advanced techniques. Rather than being a music school that teaches many other musical instruments, SING School is all about the voice and how it works! Total vocal mastery takes years however with the right knowledge and education, singers can achieve amazing outcomes whilst having fun. Every student of SING School has each lesson tailored specifically to their individual needs and goals. There is no one size fits all, as every person is seen as the unique individual that they are. There is no negativity at SING School, this is an environment that focusses on promoting positivity and celebrating the journey of learning to sing; not only the tangible achievements but each step that has been taken to get there.

Frequently Asked
Questions

SING School is conveniently located in the inner city suburb of Red Hill Qld with plenty of on street parking available. The street address is Shop 18, 109 Musgrave Road, Red Hill QLD 4059

SING School teaches most ages* and all abilities from the individual who believes they are “tone deaf” or “can’t hold a note” through to working professionals and everyone in between. Hobbyists and recreational singers encouraged to attend, as we believe that everyone not only can sing but should sing for joy and pleasure. SING School has a special interest in helping people overcome performance anxiety and any fear or concern around the sound of their voices. *We like to meet any children under the age of 10 before commencing lessons to ensure they are ready for formal lessons.
Each lesson will be structured for the individual student and will differ each lesson. Most lessons will include specific warmups, vocal technique work, song work along with posture and breathing techniques tailored to the student’s unique requirements. The studio is set up with everything a singer needs to perform their craft.

For best results, maximum benefit and tangible improvement, weekly 60 minutes lessons are recommended (some people even come twice weekly), however we understand that life can be busy. We do offer casual lessons in certain circumstances. Another option is to purchase the block of 10 lessons (to receive a discount) and book in when you can fit lessons into your schedule.
Experience tells us that a minimum of 45 minutes is necessary to accommodate warmups and technique exercises, however 60 minutes is the ideal duration of a lesson to allow for song work and technical work without feeling rushed.
We are here to help and believe any singing is better than no singing!

In the world of singing, a Voice Teacher and Vocal Coach are two different things.

A Vocal Coach is primarily a style coach; they help singers with phrasing, rhythm, and how to “perform/act” a song etc.

A Voice Teacher has studied the science of singing (Vocal Pedagogy and anatomy), they teach the “how of singing”. They are voice builders; offering practical solutions to help the singer improve their voice.

At SING School, we offer a combination of both to all our students. We believe this provides the best outcome for all our students.

SING School offers virtual lessons to people all over the world via Skype and FaceTime, as well as face to face lessons.
